6-Chloro-3-Indolyl--D-Galacto-Pyranoside

Salmon-Gal
C14H16ClNO6=329.7

Salmon-GAL is an alternative chromogenic substrate for -D-Galactosidase.   Salmon-gal is used in conjunction with IPTG for detection of -galactosidase activity in bacterial colonies in a colorimetric assay to detect recombinants (white) from non-recombinants.  Salmon-GAL is cleaved at the 1-4 bond between galactose and the 5-Bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl part of X-gal by -galactosidase via hydrolysis.
